A SCENIC cottage belonging to a Ribble Valley businessman has been at the centre of a dramatic soap storyline.
Bosses and stars of ITV soap "Coronation Street" swopped the country's most famous cobbles for the picturesque Lake District to shoot scenes which saw troubled kitchen fitter Joe McIntyre (played by Reece Dinsdale) fake his own death as part of an insurance scam going wrong.
Since the "wicked" plot was screened on television last week, the bookings have been flying in for Wyke Bay, in Pullwood Bay – the location of the stunning lakeside four-bedroom holiday home.
The property, which belongs to Mr Harold Cowburn, who owns the Three Rivers Caravan Park in West Bradford, was also the perfect setting as the romantic honeymoon destination for Gail (Helen Worth) and Joe on "Coronation Street" last year.
Mr Cowburn, who lives in West Bradford, said the picturesque scenery has captured the imaginations of many and the bookings had been flooding in.
"The Lake District based storyline has been well received by the public and we have been inundated with calls from viewers asking where exactly the location of the cottage is where the McIntyres stayed," he said.
"The popularity has been such that we have received 5,000 hits on our website and the cottage is now booked up until the end of August."
He added: "Officials at Coronation Street contacted me in September last year with a view to the cast and crew filming both the honeymoon and Valentine's special episodes in November. They rented the holiday-home for two weeks. When I bought the house seven years ago it was derelict and needed a complete revamp.
"It was renovated and is situated in the most beautiful part of the Lake District."
