Racing star Guy Martin’s Gisburn Forest date
enthusiast: Guy Martin, having swapped his usual racing leathers for mountain biking gear.
Motorcycle superstar Guy Martin will launch new mountain biking facilities at Gisburn Forest this Saturday (March 23rd).
The famous Isle of Man TT rider and TV host a is also a keen and competetive mountain biking enthusiast. He will be cutting a ribbon on the day to officially launch the new facilities created for mountain bikers at Gisburn Forest.
Although best-known for his motorcyle racing exploits, Guy has found a new audience through presenting television programmes including “The Boat that Guy Built” for BBC1 and “How Britain Worked” for Channel 4. They have led to the likeable Lincolnshire truck mechanic being likened to the late Fred Dibnah because of his enthusiasm for Britain’s industrial heritage.
He is less well-know for his mountain biking, but is a great ambassador for the sport and will no doubt be keen to try the testing Gisburn Forest tracks. The new facilities at the Forest Hub include a new car park, a café, new sections of trail and a special skills area for riders to hone their technique.
Activities on the opening day also include trail building demonstrations – as many of the singletrack sections within Gisburn have been created by enthusiastic volunteers. There will be the chance to sign up to a free coaching session, and there will be a stall there from local bicycle component manufacturer Hope, based in Barnoldswick.
Martin Colledge, Beat Forester for Gisburn Forest, said: “We are really excited about being able to launch these great new facilities at Gisburn Forest.
“Gisburn has steadily grown into one of the top destinations for mountain bikers in North West England and these facilities will help enhance that reputation and make bikers’ visits all the more enjoyable.
“We are really pleased that Guy Martin will also be joining us as our volunteers know he is a keen mountain biker and they said they would love him to share the day with them.”
The new Gisburn Hub has been made possible thanks to contributions from the Forestry Commission, the Rural Development Programme England, Lancashire County Council, Ribble Valley Borough Council, Forest of Bowland AONB, Electricity North West Ltd, and United Utilities.
