Natalie is world class
Natalie Cunliffe
A WHALLEY teenager studying at St Mary’s College, Blackburn, has proved herself to be world class.
Natalie Cunliffe (18), of Woodfield View, Whalley, scored a total of 36 points in the college’s first ever results for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
It is understood that on the UCAS tariff, this mark is the equivalent of well over three A*s at A-Level. All eight students from the college passed the Diploma and the average point score was 31, which equates to two A*s and one A at A-level. Natalie, who is a former pupil of St Augustine’s RC High School, Billington, will now be going to Manchester University to read Spanish and art history.
Sarah Flanagan, IB co-ordinator at St Mary’s, said: “This is a remarkable achievement as the IB is a particularly challenging qualification. “All students take six subjects as well as a core involving a research project, theory of knowledge and community, action and service programme, which is like a mini-Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
“We are thrilled with these results, particularly as St Mary’s is the only centre in East Lancashire to offer the IB.”
