OLYMPIC hopeful Samantha Murray was welcomed to the Houses of Parliament by her own Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans.

Pentathlete Samantha was given a tour of Parliament by Mr Evans, who is Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, and was introduced to Speaker of the House John Bercow MP.

Mr Evans said: “I was delighted to welcome Samantha, one of my constituents and one of the top pentathletes in the country, to the House of Commons. I wish her all the best of luck in her quest to represent Great Britain in our home Olympic Games.

“People should never underestimate the determination and effort it takes to become an Olympian and these Games will give us an opportunity to pay tribute to the long hours of training, the total dedication of the athletes and the amazing support of family and friends.

“Samantha has impressed me with her enthusiasm in wanting to be the best modern pentathlete in the world and I am sure we are all proud of her achievements and I look forward to cheering her on.”
