MORE than £4,000 was raised for two worthwhile charities by an eight-strong team of boys from the Ribble Valley who completed a 12-hour bike ride around Gisburn Forest.

The boys, who are all aged 15, each completed approximately 43 miles on a relay loop, raising much needed funds for the Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue team and the North West Air Ambulance.

The group comprised of Ben McGlynn, Jake Stanworth, Seb Smith, Max Bowen, Zach Cottam, George Collins, Brandon O’Rourke and Peter Cherry, seven of whom are Year 11 pupils at Bowland High School, Grindleton.

The team had lots of support, especially from the BPMR team who spent much of the day with them and were even on hand to rescue a biker with a broken ankle – proving the point of how important the BPMR team and the NWAA are!

Riders on the day also donated in return for a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich.

The event was followed by a family charity quiz night which raised a further £800. This amount was kindly match funded by Clitheroe firm Johnson Matthey to which the team is very grateful.

The raffle was a huge success and the generosity of donators astounding.
