PUPILS are learning the basics of sword fighting during fencing classes at Clitheroe’s St James’ CE Primary School.

Using foam swords, shields and full Roman Legion dress, they will learn about ancient skills dating from the Roman Legions to the basic art of modern fencing.

The new course for Key Stage One childen, follows on from the successful fencing club run last year for the school’s Key Stage Two children.

It is already proving to be very popular, as well as educational and fun, for the younger pupils.
