THE funeral of a murdered East Lancashire businessman found buried in Ribble Valley woodland will take place today.

David Guilfoyle (37) was killed by Hapton man Shane Fitzpatrick at his Accrington home in May 2005

Fitzpatrick, a former Burnley printer, was convicted of the murder in 2006 and jailed for 20 years – but no body was ever found.

New information came to light in December last year which led detectives to woodland near Bolton-by-Bowland.

Around 50 police officers and forensic archaeologists were drafted in to search for Mr Guilfoyle’s body which was discovered in a shallow grave at Admiral’s Wood.

His family will now lay him to rest at Accrington Cemetery following a service at the chapel at 1-40pm.
