Duo hit the top note for charity
Joshua and Samuel at charity event
Two highly-accomplished young musicians returned to their Lancashire roots when they entertained a local audience with An Evening of Music at Newton Hall, Newton-in-Bowland.
Joshua Abbott (piano) and Samuel Thompson (clarinet) who are both students at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, first met when they were members of the Lancashire Youth Concert Band.
Samuel, from Grimsargh and Joshua, from Langho, delighted their audience with a programme which included Saint-Saens, Franck and J.S.Bach, concluded with Gaubert’s Fantaisie.
The audience had valiantly braved the icy weather to attend the recital which was held at the home of Mrs Janet Weisters, at Newton Hall, who was thrilled with the £1,590 raised on the evening for East Lancashire Hospice.
Champagne and canapés were served at the interval and the evening finished off with coffee and mince pies and the drawing of a raffle.
In thanking Joshua and Samuel, Mrs Weisters stressed that every penny raised on the evening would go directly to the East Lancashire Hospice in memory of her daughter-in-law Natalie Weisters, nee Abbott, who was also the elder sister of Joshua.
Raffle prizes were kindly donated by D. Byrne & Co., Wine Merchants, Shackletons Nursery, Mrs Linda Hardman of the Flower Shop Clitheroe, The Parkers Arms Newton, Mrs Helen Ireland, of Flowers from the Heart, Slaidburn and Mrs Jane Dickinson of JD 4Hair in, Slaidburn, who donated a magnificent Christmas Hamper.
In particular Mrs Weisters thanked Mr and Mrs Bryan Townson, who supplied and served the canapés, and also all friends and neighbours who had helped in any way making the evening such an enjoyable and successful event.
East Lancashire Hospice Fundraising Manager, Sharon Crymble said: “We are very grateful to Natalie’s family for their continued support of East Lancashire Hospice. Events such as these help us to continue to care for our local community and make a huge difference to our patients and their families at a time when specialist care and support is needed.”
