Double-decker stuck under Langho rail bridge
ROAD traffic and rail services were disrupted today when a double-decker coach struck scaffolding and got stuck under the railway bridge at Whalley Road, Langho.
The incident happened shortly after 7-30 a.m. and involved a vehicle from Hodsons Coaches of Clitheroe. It was not carrying any passengers at the time.
Police closed the road, causing traffic tailbacks, and rail services on the Blackburn-Clitheroe line were suspended.
Network Rail has been carrying out extensive maintenance work on the bridge for the past month, and light-controlled single-line traffic has been operating under it.
A Lancashire police spokeswoman said: “The double decker collided with scaffolding under the bridge, causing extensive damage to the roof. No-one was injured.”
A Network Rail spokesman said: “We had to check the structure of the bridge to ensure it was safe. We were able to restore normal rail services from 8-20 a.m.”
Hodsons, based at Link59 Business Park, said the incident was under investigation and they wished to make no comment.
