Clitheroe man (60) could not explain chocolate theft

A 60-YEAR-OLD Clitheroe man could offer no explanation for why he had stolen a box of chocolates worth just £4 from Sainsburys.

Robert David Martin, of Tower Hill, pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared before Blackburn magistrates.

He was given a conditional discharge for six months and ordered to pay £70 with £15 costs.

Mr Carl Gaffney (prosecuting) said there was “no rhyme or reason” for the theft. Martin told the court he could offer no explanation.

“It was just a stupid thing to do,” he said.
