A CLITHEROE ambulance man has taken part in a charity cycle ride from London to Paris for the British Heart Foundation.

Mark Evans, together with colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), took on the 250 miles of the London to Paris On-Road Bike Ride, supported by Santander, setting out on Saturday and finishing on Monday. He was joined by eight colleagues and two non-NWAS friends, all raising money for the BHF to thank the charity for its support of NWAS.

Mark (35), works as a Community Resuscitation Manager for NWAS NHS Trust, which is a BHF-supported post, and focuses on increasing survival rates in the community by providing training and knowledge in immediate emergency care.

Mark said: “When I first started at NWAS there were only seven people in our team. Thanks to the fantastic support from BHF we’ve been able to increase that to 19, which makes a huge difference. We can get into more places to educate people about the chain of survival and how to handle emergency situations by using simple but effective life-saving skills.

“The BHF is also something that’s close to our hearts. One of our team members, Jon Wright, is riding after his dad suffered a major heart attack. He was fortunate enough to survive, due, in no small part to the emergency treatment that he received, so it’s something that means a lot to us all both personally and professionally.”

Team NWAS hopes to raise £5,000 for the BHF and their fundraising page is and you can still make a donation online at www.justgiving.com/Team-NWAS-london-to-Paris or text LOPA99 followed by the amount to 70070.
