'Benidorm' star Hanah Hobley to appear at Pendle's 'Oscars'

PENDLE television star Hannah Hobley will be at the Pendle Hippodrome Theatre on Saturday to present the borough's own "Oscars".

The event, which starts at 7-15 p.m. and includes excerpts from some of the best productions which have just happened or are about to, involves the Leader Times Stage Awards - sponsored by Howard Rigg - and other trophies.

It honours individual and theatre company performances in drama, musicals and pantomimes, plus special service awards to people who make a major contribution to local amateur theatre.

Guest star Hannah, who went to school in Pendle, has made her name in BBC's "Cranford" and ITV's "Benidorm", and also starred in a professional pantomime at the Muni in Colne at New Year.

The evening will be hosted by leading local actor Richard Sanderson, who played Basil in the successful Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company production of "Fawlty Towers", a show which will be considered for next year's awards.

The first act of the evening includes excerpts from productions by Stage Door Youth Theatre, St James Players, Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre and Pendle Borderline Theatre Company. After the break, there will be samples of work by St John Southworth Youth Theatre, Colne Dramatic Society and Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre.

That will be followed by the presentation of the Leader Times Stage Awards, plus the Vincent Waterworth Award, the Thomas Wright Award, the Maureen Hopkins Awards, the Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre President's Award, the Ray Eden Award, the Ken Hickey Drama Award, the Thomas Todhunter Comedy Award and the Brian Wellock Trophy for an outstanding contribution to a production.

Tickets are 6 and can be booked online at www.phtheatre.co.uk. You can call in at the Hippodrome box office in New Market Street on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or call 863210 at those times.

Alternatively, just turn up on the night and buy your ticket.
