Liberal Democrat candidate James K. Shervey was the clear winner in yesterday’s by-election for a seat on Ribble Valley Borough Council representing Clitheroe’s Littlemoor Road.
He polled 361 votes, well ahead of second place Independent candidate Steve Rush, who polled 249.
In third place with 109 votes was Conservative candidate Jean Mary Forshaw and bringing up the rear with 85 votes was Labour’s Liz Webbe. Turnout for the borough council by-election was 33.5%.
The vacancy was caused by the resignation of Conservative member Coun. Christine Connor for personal reasons. The loss of her seat to the Lib-Dems means the Conservatives now hold 33 of the 40 seats on the borough council, while the Liberal Democrats have six and there is one Independent.
