Journalist killed in Libya was Stonyhurst College pupil

oSCAR-NOMINATED film-maker Tim Hetherington, who died in a mortar attack in Libya, was a former pupil at Stonyhurst College, it has been revealed. Liverpool-born Tim (41) was a pupil at the college from 1984 to 1989.

Staff at Stonyhurst College issued a statement telling how they are “deeply saddened” by his untimely death. It stated: “Tim Hetherington was a former pupil of Stonyhurst College and he achieved excellent academic results and went on from Stonyhurst to Oxford University to continue his studies.

“While at Stonyhurst Tim played rugby for the 1st XV, won prizes for debating, creative writing and English, and was treasurer of the film society. We are deeply saddened to hear of Tim’s untimely death and have offered our condolences to his family.”
