New curate at Clitheroe Parish Church, Rev. Andrew Whitehead has been busy learning the ropes in his new post, where a hard hat and hi-vis vest are as much a part of the kit as his dog collar!
As work begins on the rebuilding of the church’s landmark spire, Andrew was given a tour of the work in progress – including the extensive repairs to stonework on the ground and the view from the top of the scaffolding – by architect Steve Burke.
Andrew, who is a native of Accrington and has been studying for the past two years in Cambridge at Westcott House, has recently moved to the Highmoor Estate in Clitheroe with his wife Rebecca and two-year-old daughter Eleanor.
He will serve for four years in the parish of St Mary Magdalene as he completes his training. Andrew comes to the parish from an employment background in higher education management, having most recently worked for Lancaster University as a senior manager for their estates department, where he gained experience which he hopes will prove useful in his ministry.
Rev. Andy Froud, Priset-in-Charge at St Mary’s, commented: “Clitheroe is a great place to live and work and Andrew and his family have already been made very welcome by the church and community. I believe he will have a very fruitful ministry here.”
