HURST GREEN: Uplifting Maori film to be screened

Ceilidh - Friends of St Joseph’s School, Hurst Green, held a family Ceilidh which was a success, raising more than £500.

“Friends” thank all who attended for their support and the Mann family for providing excellent entertainment, keeping those from three generations happy.

WI - The next meeting of Hurst Green WI will be on Thursday, November 24th. This will be a 1940s night and members are invited to dress up in the style of the era. This is the annual meeting and supper will be provided by the committee, members are asked to bring crockery, cutlery and a glass.

Youth club - St Joseph’s Youth Club meets fortnightly in Hurst Green Memorial Hall on Fridays from 7-30 p.m. The next meeting is November 18th and children over nine are welcome.

Film club - The next film will be tomorrow at 7-30 p.m, in St John’s Old School. This will be “Whale Rider” (PG) based on a Maori novel, it is a unique family drama, set on New Zealand’s East coast. The Whangara people’s leadership traditions are challenged when a young mother dies in childbirth with her newborn first son. Magnificent scenery and story line, truly uplifting. All welcome, entry by donation.
