These days it’s really no big deal to hop on a jet plane and fly over the Atlantic... but imagine if you had to row it!
That’s just what Helen Leigh did, and next month she will tell the story of her incredible adventure in a talk at The Grand.
Helen, a member of staff at The Green Jersey bike shop in Clitheroe, was part of a four-woman crew taking part in a 2012 event, “Row For Freedom”, Together they rowed 3,000 miles from the Canary Islands to Barbados, breaking two world records and raising more than £80,000 for anti-slavery charities.
You can hear Helen’s inspirational story on Sunday November 23rd at The Grand, in York Street, Clitheroe, beginning at 7 pm. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for under-18s and are available now from The Green Jersey in Taylor Street, or online from The Grand’s website at: www.thegrandvenue.co.uk
A proportion of the ticket sales will go to ECPAT UK, an organisation campaigning against child trafficking and transnational child exploitation (www.ecpat.org.uk)
