Ribble Valley Macmillan Cancer Support’s 100 Club held its winter lunch at Mytton Fold Hotel, with 75 members and guests attending.

After the meal inspirational guest speaker Christine Mitchell talked about her work in Uganda, teaching people to sew bags, wallets, waistcoats etc. which were then sold and the proceeds used to buy seed, food and to educate their children. Since 2008 Christine has helped to raise £20,000 with this venture.

A minute’s silence was held at the lunch in memory of Margaret Moult, who died recently and had for the past 10 years been secretary of the 100 Club.

At the lunch the committee received numerous individual donations and the proceeds of fund-raising events totalling £6,680, which excludes proceeds from the lunch itself.

One of the donations was £3,000 raised by Nathan Peel at the Ewood Ball in memory of his mother. The 100 Club Committee thank all members for their support and the continued support from local businesses and Ribble Valley residents.
