BROWN leather boots made way for blue suede shoes at the Ribble Valley Stepping out Group’s Christmas party.

Keen walker George Pharo revealed his other passion – performing as his musical hero Elvis Presley – when he entertained at the party at Knowle Green Village Hall. He donned the full rhinestone-studded jumpsuit, dark glasses and signature hairstyle to sing as The King, earning himself a new set of groupies!

The party followed a two-mile circular walk around the village for members of the popular Stepping Out group. Run by Ribble Valley Borough Council and funded by the NHS, the Stepping Out scheme started eight years ago as a way of encouraging regular exercide. It now sees more than 100 walkers, from beginner ramblers to hardened hikers, take to the highways and byways of the Ribble Valley each week in a series of walks of between one and seven miles.

The scheme also offers Tramper Treks for people with restricted mobility tanks to three all-terrain electric buggies bought with £9,000 of National Lottery funding. For more details for the Stepping Out walks, see our weekly listings page in The Valley.
