Nine-year-old Katie Powl is rocking a chic bob – all the while knowing that some other little girl out there is enjoying her previous long locks.
Earlier this month, Katie, who lives in Tosside, held a Table Top Sale at Wigglesworh Community Hall, which raised £207 for “Jack’s Journey”. Katie attends Rathmell Primary School with six-year-old Jack.
At 20 months, Jack was diagnosed with a brain tumour and had to undergo extensive treatment. In 2012 he was diagnosed for a second time. However, he is currently doing really well.
Not content with raising money at the Table Top Sale, Katie decided to go that extra length and have her long hair cut to donate to the Little Princess Trust. With sponsorship on the day and money received on justgiving.com/Katie-Powl, Katie has so far raised £370. This will pay for a wig to be made for a child undergoing treatment for cancer.
Her proud mum, Rose, said: “Since joining Little Voices classes last year at Clitheroe, Katie’s confidence has soared.
“As her mum, watching her do this, it brings tears to my eyes as I am extremely proud to see how she is growing into a selfless young lady. I have had so many people tell me what a treasure she is and that her attitude is older than her years. When she was having her cut, people were saying well done to Katie. Her response was “I don’t want any ‘well done’ I’m only having my hair cut. I just hope it can be of use to another boy or girl.” Katie would like to thank Jack, James and Jen Lambert. Ella Caton and Lily Whittle, the kind people that supported the event and the businesses that donated prizes, plus hairdresser, Megan Harrison, who gave her her new “Taylor Swift” haircut.
