If YOU are a baby and worried about the pregnancy or concerned about the birth, then help is at hand.
Parents-to-be can help to reduce their concerns or worries with NCT Antenatal courses, which are taking place at Blackburn’s Birth Centre, on Park Lee Road, and at Le Monde Petit Nursery, in Bank Parade, Burnley.
Led by qualified teachers, NCT antenatal courses are renowned throughout the UK for helping new parents prepare themselves for birth and parenthood. Classes are ideal for building up confidence and reducing anxiety surrounding the birth and becoming a parent – they are also a great way to make new friends who understand exactly what you are going through.
Bookings are being taken for courses happening between now and the end of this year. For parents-to-be expecting babies during December or January 2012, a shorter format of the usual course will be starting on Sunday 20th November, at Le Monde Petit Nursery in Burnley.
A course also began this Tuesday (October 4th) at the Birth Centre in Blackburn for parents-to-be who are expecting babies from mid-December onwards through to the end of January 2012.
Topics covered on the course generally include:
What is happening to your body during pregnancy.
l Preparing for labour and birth by finding out what choices you have and learning skills such as massage, breathing and birthing positions.
l Practicing skills you’ll need when your baby arrives such as breastfeeding, nappy changing, bathing and settling a crying baby.
l Discussions on what life will really be like with a new baby.
Rachel Harradine, Antenatal Teacher NCT East Lancs Branch, said: “Every baby and every birth is different and the course gives people and their birth partners dedicated time to consider their labour and birth experience. It’s also a safe place to ask questions and people are encouraged to ask whatever they need to know to ensure they feel fully prepared.
“Classes are friendly, informal sessions and everyone on the course will be expecting a baby around the same time helping to provide a sharing environment, and many people find they make good friends through the course and the reunions.”
Unlike many other courses, NCT’s Antenatal courses are run by teachers who are fully qualified to diploma level; ensuring they are highly skilled before taking their class. There is a charge for the courses but discount rates are available for those on low income Profit from the course is invested back into the charity’s campaigns and services.
