FIFTY-FIVE walkers and six dogs braved the cold December weather to take part in the 17th annual Whalley Walk and Ridiculous Hat Competition.
Although the weather was dry with little wind, the footpaths were extremely muddy due to the rain over Christmas so the walkers did well to complete the six-mile circular walk.
As is the tradition, the walkers stopped for a well-earned drink and a rest at the Game Cock Inn, Great Harwood, before continuing back to Whalley via the Nab.
As usual, many walkers wore silly hats, including many that were home-made, for the silly hat competition.
In the children’s category, the top prize was won by Alissa Darbyshire, of New Longton, who sported a real red nose and antlers. In the adult category, the winners were husband and wife couple Shaun and Helen Fenton, of Darwen. Shaun wore a home-made Christmas cake, while Helen donned a hat comprising cuddly woollen Christmas toys.
A collection was held at the walk, which raised £104 for The Bethany Project.
