Mayoresses, lady mayors and guests from all over Lancashire wore their best headgear at the request of Ribble Valley’s Mayoress, Mrs Jean Hayes, for one of the last events of her civic year before handing over the chain of office.

Her “Luncheon with Hats” at the Shireburn Arms, Hurst Green, a lso featured a piano recital by Paul Greenhalgh, head of Blackburn School of Music, and was in aid of Mrs Hayes’s chosen charities, The Alzheimer’s Society and Guide Dogs for the Blind. She later visited the guide dog training centre at Atherton, Bolton, to hand over a cheque. Mrs Hayes said: “I would like to thank everyone who helped and supported my efforts for these two charities over the year. “
