So the food bank covering Burnley, Pendle and the surrounding areas is about to treble in size and move to bigger premises in a bid to meet a massive rise in demand.
The food bank is an admirable concept, one which this newspaper has supported extensively over the last year or so.
But at some point the question that needs asking is how the hell do we tackle the issue at source? How, in the year 2014, do so many people have to go cap in hand to get free food handouts while they attempt to get their lives back on track.
Sadly, as Britain starts to show signs of economic recovery, the gap between the haves and have nots seems to be growing ever wider.
