Brockhall’s prestigious hotel and conference centre, The Avenue, beat off stiff competition to win their heat of Channel 4’s popular programme “Four in a Bed”.

The TV show, which airs at 5 pm on weekdays, sees bed and breakfast and hotel owners take it in turns to stay in each others hostelries and then pay what they consider to be a fair rate for their nights accommodation.

The Avenue’s owners Janet Sutton and Margaret Lofthouse decided to take part in the show after being contacted by Channel 4. Up against worthy competitors from Penrith and two hotels in Cornwall, the pair were understandably apprehensive about taking part.

Janet commented: “We were in competition with three excellent venues in beautiful locations, so we felt really up against it. We have worked really hard to rebuild the business for the past three years, starting from scratch after it had gone into administration.”

The business partners, who have recently opened “The Venue” bar and restaurant with conference faciities as an extension to the existing business, treated their guests to the best in northern hospitality.

Janet continued: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won the competition and it feels like our dream to make the business succeed is finally realised.”
