A FOSTER mum was chosen as the winner of Shackletons Home and Garden Centre’s Christmas tree competition.

Lizzie Wilson, from Burnley, was chosen as the winner after entering the competition advertised on the Chatburn-based retailer’s Facebook page.

David Shackleton said: “We received over 560 entries to win the tree, which is worth £200, but Lizzie’s entry really touched our heartstrings, we feel she’s a worthy winner.

“In her entry Lizzie explained that she and her family have just started fostering and that the little baby she is fostering is in and out of hospital, and that the family had not had chance to think about Christmas or get a tree.”

Lizzie said: “I’m really pleased to have won; I never win competitions so it’s fantastic to have won the tree. We put it up at home and it looks fabulous.

“I’m just at the start of my foster journey so I know there will be lots of little babies and children who will enjoy this tree for many years to come.”

Lizzie collected her tree with her children and enjoyed a visit to see Father Christmas and two of his “trainee” Reindeer, which were also at the garden centre in the run-up to Christmas.
