Firefighters extinguish Ribble Valley moorland blazes

Firefighters extinguished two grass fires over the weekend that had started in fields around the Ribble Valley.

The first started in Billington at just after 2-40 pm on Saturday in a field near Moor Lane.

Firefighters from Great Harwood attended and when they arrived found a pile of wood, approximately 3m by 3m, on fire. The fire was extinguished using a bucket of water and beaters.

Then on Sunday, firefighters from Hyndburn were called out to a grass fire near Moor Lane in Wiswell at just after 3 pm. When they arrived they found approximately 80 sq metres of gorse land well alight. The fire was brought under control using beaters and an aqua pack.
