CHILDREn from Chatburn Primary School took a step back in time and experienced life as evacuees for a day.
The Year 4 youngsters came to school dressed as evacuees from the Second World War. The children started the day with hand writing practice – not so easy on chalk boards!
Following this, they baked a syrup loaf using rationed ingredients and mended the blackout curtains using needle and thread. There were several air raid sirens during the day and the class had to dive under the tables whilst putting on their gas masks! The class teacher, Miss Dakin, commented: “The children had a brilliant day and all did their best to behave and avoid Miss Dakin’s cane!”
