CommunityThe service in Billington Community Church was taken by the Rev. Don Johnson who spoke on Epiphany - John the Baptist concerning Jesus. The Bible reading was by Mrs Jean Chadwick from John chapter 1 verse 29-42 The Lamb of God and Jesus' first disciples.
The hymns "Blessed Assurance," "Amazing Grace" and "Will you come and follow me" were sung. Flowers for the communion table were provided by Mrs Jean Douglas.
EulogyVice-president Mrs Beryl Salter welcomed members and visitors to the January meeting of Billington and Langho WI.
Mrs Lilian Hargreaves gave a eulogy to founder member Mrs Ann Foster, who died last month. Ann was loved by everyone and put a lot into the WI. She entered Clitheroe WI Show every year with her produce, chutneys and flowers and won first prize last year for sweet peas at the age of 89.
Mrs Salter introduced guest speaker Mrs Rose Donkin who spoke of her experiences running a bed and breakfast business. Mrs Ann Wetton expressed thanks.
A competition for an unusual egg cup was won by Mrs Christine Seedall, Mrs Maureen Topham, Mrs Jean Price.
Birthday flowers were presented to Mrs Kathleen Leslie and raffle winners were Norah Downes, Noreen Turner, Lilian Hargreaves, Anne Hargreaves and Carole Maher.
Names were taken for the Clitheroe Amateur Operatic Society's show "Oklahoma" in February and the LFWI fun quiz on January 31st.
The next meeting will be in St Mary's Hall, York Lane, Langho, on Tuesday, February 8th, at 7-45p.m. when the speaker will be Mr David Kay on "Shire Horses". The competition is for a horse brass and there will be a cake stall.
