A group of 12 youngsters from Bowland Montessori Pre-school got a taste of restaurant life when they visited Piccolinos Italian restaurant in Clitheroe.

They were warmly welcomed by the manager, Dan, before being given a tour of the restaurant’s kitchen. There they met chef Morris who gave a very entertaining demonstration in the art of pizza making.

The visit was part of a topic on healthy eating and it was fascinating for the children to see such a familiar food being prepared and cooked from scratch. The children commented on the intense heat of the wood fired pizza oven.

Dan boxed the finished pizzas for the children to take away which they ate in Clitheroe Castle park in the sunshine before heading back to Greenacre Street where the pre-school is based.

Thanks were expressed to Piccolinos for their generous time and hospitality. The staff were very pleased with the impeccable behaviour of their guests and invited them back any time they liked.

From their garden, the pre-schoolers have been picking and tasting salad leaves and radishes. A few more sunny days and the strawberries will be ready to pick.

Leader, Nancy Bigmore, commented on the importance of knowing more about the food we eat and where it comes from.
