A former pupil at Stonyhurst College was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Sir Bill Cash attended the Ribble Valley school from 1953 to 1959 and captained the cricket team while he was there.
A prominent Eurosceptic in the House of Commons, Sir Bill has been the MP for Stone, Staffordshire, since the constituency was created in 1997. Prior to that he was MP for Stafford since 1984.
Among the first to congratulate him was Ribble Valley’s Conservative MP Nigel Evans, who said: “I am delighted Sir Bill’s work over decades has been recognised and it is another accolade for Stonyhurst to have an old boy to receive such an honour .”
