Half a dozen former Ribble Valley pupils have been awarded an excellence scholarship.

Students James Harvey, Molly Dunn, Jack Taylor, Rachel Fox and Matthew Harvey from St Augustine’s RC High School at Billington and Holly Clarke, who is a former pupil at Ribblesdale High School at Clitheroe, have been awarded the scholarship from St Mary’s College, Blackburn, based on their GCSE achievements. As a group, these six students, who are now studying for their A Levels at St Mary’s, achieved a total of 41 A* GCSE grades!

The Excellence Scholarships, of up to £1,000 per student, were introduced to give students the opportunity to benefit financially from this aspirational fund.

The Principal, Frank Dixon said: “I am so very pleased that the College has been able to support the students with the Excellence Scholarship Initiative. In the current economic climate, I am sure that the scholarship will be an award that is valued by both students and parents. The College works very closely with schools in the Ribble Valley and is delighted that so many high achieving Ribble Valley students make St Mary’s College their first choice for post-16 education.”
