A road was closed for several hours after a serious road accident in Sawley this morning.

Firefighters from Clitheroe had to cut the male driver of a Volkswagen Golf free from the vehicle after it overturned on the A59 just before 10-30 am.

The 45-year-old was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital where he was being treated for facial and other injuries that are serious but not life threatening.

The air ambulance was in attendance along with police who closed the road to allow investigations into the accident to take place. The road was re-opened to traffic at 3 pm.
