RIBBLE Valley residents keen to vote in next month’s election for Lancashire’s first ever Police and Crime Commissioner are advised that the last date to register as an elector is Wednesday October 31st.
That date is also the deadline for changes to existing postal or proxy votes, or to make a new application for a postal vote.
Police authorities in England and Wales were abolished in September 2011 in favour of directly elected police and crime commissioners in a move aimed at strengthening the relationship between the police and community.
The election will take place on November 15th and the new police and crime commissioner will take up post a week later, on November 22nd, with responsibility for governing Lancashire Constabulary and holding its Chief Constable to account.
The 2012 Ribble Valley Register of Electors has now been compiled and anyone not included on it, for example those who have recently moved to the area, will have to make an application to vote.
This needs to be done by 5 p.m. on October 31st and further details are available from Ribble Valley Borough Council on 01200 425111.
