Don’t be a Christmas couch potato

Don’t spend all Christmas plonked in an archair in front of the telly, full of Christmas pud and mince pies and turkey.

Get out for a good walk in the fresh winter air instead... you’ll feel better for it!

A great way to do it is to join a walk with Clitheroe Ramblers as part of the ever-popular Ramblers’ “Festival of Winter Walks”.

This year there will be more choice than ever, with walks starting in the build-up to Christmas and marching right into the New Year. Clitheroe Ramblers have five led walks taking place over the festive period and invite people to join them on one or more of following dates:

l Before Christmas, on Sunday December 23rd, there will be a 10-mile walk from Barley, led by Ben Brown (tel. 01254 822851). Either meet at Chester Avenue car park, Clitheroe, at 9 a.m. to car share or at Barley at 9-15 a.m.

l On Boxing Day, Wednesday December 26th, Valerie Grooby (tel. 01200 428766) will lead a five-mile walk from Downham. Meet at Chester Avenue car park at 11 a.m. or 11-10 a.m. at Downham car park.

l On Sunday December 30th there will be a 10-mile walk from Stainforth led by Geoff Errington (tel. 01254 814990). Meet at Chester Avenue car park at 9 a.m. to car share.

l On New Year’s Day, Tuesday January 1st, Ben Brown (tel. 01254 822851) will lead an eight-mile walk from Barley. Meet at Chester Avenue car park at 10 a.m. or at Barley at 10-15 a.m.

l Finally, on Saturday January 5th there will be a 10-mile walk from Grane Road, Haslingden, led by Barrie Williams (tel. 07757 350273). Meet at Chester Avenue car park at 9 a.m. to car share.

The walks are free and open to all, with families and well behaved dogs welcome. Walkers will need a packed lunch, warm clothing and suitable footwear. This is a great opportunity to get out into the crisp winter air over the holiday and and discover the benefits of walking outdoors with a friendly group. It’s a free, fun and social way to enjoy the festive season.
