AN award-winning Clitheroe fish and chip shop is celebrating National Chip Week with a trio of special offers.
Aldo Giaquinto, proprietor of Whalley Road Chippy, is passionate about serving up the finest fish and chips, which has seen his shop voted North West runner-up in the Perfect Portion Awards 2009 and 2010, competing against the region’s biggest and busiest outlets.
Aldo’s deep-fried delights are also much healthier than you might think. He selects the finest ingredients from the region’s top suppliers, including fresh fish from sustainable sources. All Aldo’s products are prepared fresh every day, with nothing added.
Aldo recently had a portion of his cod, chips and mushy peas professionally analysed for its nutritional value by the County Laboratory. The results showed it had fewer calories and a lower fat content than most Chinese or Indian takeaway meals. Aldo’s standard portion had 179 Kcal, 5.5 grams of fat and only 0.2 grams of salt per 100 grams, lower than most pre-packed sandwiches on supermarket shelves.
“I’m not saying fish and chips is the new ‘health food’, but eaten in moderation and as part of a balanced healthy diet it is the best takeaway meal around,” said Aldo, who also offers Lo-Salt and gluten and wheat free batter.
“It’s important to give customers the real deal for their eating experience, so we serve freshly prepared and cooked food, not fast food.”
To celebrate, Aldo is launching three cut-price special offers – sausage and chips for £1.50, haddock and chips for £3 or cod and chips for £3.50. Just take along the voucher in this week’s Clitheroe Advertiser & Times to claim your cut-price meal (opening hours Tuesday to Saturday 11-30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4-30 to 8-30 p.m.)
