A drunken teenager approached by a police officer in the grounds of Clitheroe Castle was arrested after emptying a can of cider at the officer’s feet and shouting abuse at him.

Ryan Walker (18), of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £100 costs after the magistrates heard he had spent a weekend in police cells before being put before the court.

Catherine Allan (pros-ecuting) said Walker was arrested on a Friday afternoon, but was not in a fit state to go before the court on Saturday.

Jonathan Taylor (defending), said there had been problems at home and Walker had “gone off the rails”.

“Hopefully, the weekend in custody will have the required impact on him,” said Mr Taylor.
