Sex charges dropped against Clitheroe man (75)

All charges have been dropped against a 75-year-old Clitheroe man who was facing allegations of sex offences involving a young girl going back nearly 30 years.

Jack Burgess, of Queen Street, had pleaded not guilty at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court to four charges of indecent assault and three of committing an act of gross indecency on the girl between April 1981 and April 1985, while she was under 14 years of age.

The case was committed to Preston Crown Court, where all charges were dropped last Friday after the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence.
