Off-licences in the Ribble Valley area are being praised after refusing to serve alcohol to an underage boy.
The police teamed up with Lancashire County Council Trading Standards on a recent test purchase operation.
This involved a 15-year-old volunteer visiting 12 shops in Clitheroe, Longridge, Langho and Whalley, attempting to buy alcohol.
In all of the shops the boy was challenged and asked to provide identification to prove his age. At no point was alcohol sold to the underage volunteer.
Following the operation, Licensing Sgt Jason Middleton said: “It is really encouraging that all of the shops visited passed the test and didn’t sell any alcohol to the volunteer.”
He added: “I would encourage all off-licences to challenge anyone who looks underage to provide ID, and if they just aren’t sure, asking for ID is the best way to ensure that you’re selling alcohol to people of over the legal age of 18.
“We will be carrying out similar operations in East Lancs in the future.”
Four of the 12 shops that were tested were visited after failing test purchase operations previously.
