POLICE have pinched Ebenezer Scrooge’s famous line “Bah, humbug” to warn crooks they’re in for a miserable Christmas if they break the law.

Officers in the Ribble Valley are visiting known criminals throughout the area, such as burglars, shoplifters and conmen, to give them Christmas cards with the special Yuletide warning that: “If you spoil someone’s Christmas, we’ll spoil yours.”

Posters with the Dickensian miser’s “Bah, humbug” message are being distributed to residents and businesses, and officers are giving crime prevention advice.

Ribble Valley Police Inspector Graham Lister said: “We want people to know we’ll be doing our best to spoil Christmas for the criminals.”

• Police have also warned school-run mums to limit their evening drinks or risk being breath-tested the next day.
