The paraglider who died following an accident at Pendle Hill on Wednesday has been named as 48-year-old Rob Kirkbride from Lytham.

His partner Angela Feehan said: “The only thing we can take any comfort from is knowing he died doing something he loved.”

Emergency services were called at shortly after noon to the Well Springs, Sabden, where Rob had been paragliding with a friend.

Initial reports suggest he fell 30ft to the ground after the canopy of his glider collapsed.

Police, paramedics, the air ambulance and mountain rescue teams attended, but despite their best efforts he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is on-going to try to establish the cause of the accident and a post mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
