A CLITHEROE woman who had bought a new car just 10 minutes earlier hit the accelerator instead of the brake as she approached a roundabout and knocked over a pedestrian.
Blackburn magistrates heard the man suffered fractured vertebrae in the collision in Chatburn Road, Clitheroe.
Marie Stirzaker (65), of Pendle Court, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention. She was fined £70 with £58 costs and her licence endorsed with five penalty points.
Mrs Stirzaker said she wasn’t even doing 30 mph because she wasn’t used to the car.
“I saw a car come out of the garage and went for the brake but instead I pushed the accelerator,” said Stirzaker. “There were that many gadgets, it was completely different to what I was used to.”
