A 23-YEAR-OLD Clitheroe man headbutted his girlfriend during a drink-fuelled argument sparked by his jealousy.
Blackburn magistrates heard the victim called police, but then refused to make a statement against Adam Chadwick. Even so, when questioned by the police he admitted what he had done.
Chadwick, of Moor Lane, Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to assault. He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for two years and made subject to community supervision for 18 months with a condition that he attends the domestic violence programme.
Mr Alex Mann (prosecuting) said Chadwick accepted that he had drunk about 12 cans of cider. He said his girlfriend had cheated on him last year and when he was in drink this played on his mind.
Mr Stephen Barker (defending) said the only version of events provided to the police was the one Chadwick had given.
“His partner said she didn’t want to put any facts forward and didn’t want to take any action against him,” said Mr Barker.
“He is very remorseful about what took place. She had a brief relationship with another man last Autumn and that appears to be the catalyst to trouble between them.”
