A MAN making his way home from the pub was struck by a car as he crossed the road within the confines of a pelican crossing in Clitheroe.
Blackburn magistrates heard Leonard Jones was crossing from the driver’s right, but Raheela Begum Rafhan said she still maintained it was not her fault.
“He wasn’t on the crossing and he was drunk,” she told the court.
Begum (26), of Whalley Road, Clitheroe, was convicted after a trial of driving without due care and attention. She was banned from driving for six months and fined £100 with £165 costs.
Mrs Julie Reddish (prosecuting) said following the incident in Waterloo Road in July last year the next think Mr Jones remembered was waking up in hospital. He had significant injuries and his left ankle, which needed pins and plates inserting, had still not recovered.
Rafhan said she called the ambulance and the police and waited with Mr Jones.
