Following the winter break, market members have been busy cooking, crafting and growing in preparation for the first Clitheroe Country Market of 2017.

It will be held on Tuesday, March 14th, from 9-30am to noon at The United Reformed Church, Clitheroe. There will be a new display in the main entrance foyer of the church with disabled access as well as the usual main market downstairs in the lower hall.

Since the last market in December there have been various meetings and at the recent AGM, held in Pendleton Village Hall, Elizabeth Backhouse, chairman, congratulated market member Flossie Rowbottom on her 31 years of office as secretary.

Her decision to retire from the post was reluctantly accepted and Francine Critchley was warmly welcomed as the new secretary.

Flossie’s contribution was also recognised at county level with Lancashire Country Markets’ chairman Jim Pawson presenting her with a bouquet of flowers and sincerely thanking her for her dedication to the role.

Over the years, Flossie has been an active member of the Tuesday morning market, supplying a gorgeous array of hand painted silk scarves and craft items as well as supporting the committee with her excellent administrative skills.

Although she has retired as secretary she will still be helping out on a Tuesday morning when she can.

Clitheroe Country Market is run as a cooperative and is part of a network of country markets across the UK. There are opportunities to join as a producer or as a helper. So, if there are any interested bakers, crafters, growers or helpers out there, just come along on a Tuesday morning and find out more from our market manager Ruth Cowperthwaite or contact her on 01200 425823.
