Count demands rematch

MICHAEL Bisping wants a rematch after his latest Ultimate Fighting Championship showdown ended in controversial circumstances on Saturday.

The Count was granted victory over American opponent Matt Hamill by the narrowest of split decisions at the O2 Arena in London.

The five-minute, three-round UFC 75 fight went the full distance, and saw Bisping lose the first round by consensus from the three judges, but win the last two by a decision of two to one.

It's the first time Bisping has had to rely upon an outside decision, having successfully submitted or ko'd his opponents in his 14 previous cage fights.

The decision hasn't been popular with the global following the sport commands, and Bisping is more than happy to set the record straight: "I want a rematch as, in my view, he won the first round, and I won round two and three. Some of the fans aren't happy with the result and feel the decision was controversial.

"I don't like to win like that, no one does if that's what people think. I'm not scared of Matt Hamill and I'd be happy to do it all again."

He enjoyed the challenge of going the full distance though, something he feels can only help him develop as a fighter.

Bisping added: "In my previous fights I've finished them all in the time frame, and that can't always happen.

"It's important that I learn how to go all the way. I'm glad as it makes me more mature as a fighter. You have to do it and I've learned a lot."

The fact Bisping remains undefeated is his trump card. Having won 15 fights, including four in the UFC Octagon, is rare in the world of cage fighting.

Talk of his next fight, and a possible rematch, has already started, but he hasn't heard anything concrete yet.

Bisping said: "I was looking at the Daily Star and they've got the rematch down for New Years Eve. They must have better contacts at the UFC than me because I haven't been told yet, but I'll be looking to get another fight in before the end of the year.

"Whether that will be against Hamill or another fighter, I haven't heard, but it will most definitely be in the States."

Bisping now has his own official website, www.bisping.tv. Updated weekly, the site covers everything associated with the Clitheroe cage fighter.
