A Summer Fair to raise funds for Whalley Old Grammar School Community Centre will take place from 10am to 4pm next Saturday, June 14th, at Station Road, Whalley.
Entrance is free and there will be lots of activities for children, including a tombola, presents for Fathers’ Day, bric-a-brac, games and toys, a cake stall, displays, a book stall, refreshments, silent auction, a “grow your own” stall and the “Ultimate Whalley Shopping Experience Raffle”.
The Old Grammar School used to be the “Adult Centre” but has changed its name to “Community Centre” as it is now run and managed by people from the community to provide an educational service for adults in the area.
It still offers a range of adult education and leisure courses, including art, crafts, knitting, yoga, gardening and language courses, all of which will be showcased and promoted at next Saturday’s fair.
Local businesses have been generous in supporting the fund-raising work and have donated hundreds of pounds worth of products and services for the “Ultimate Whalley Shopping Experience Raffle”.
The first prize is shopping vouchers worth more than £200 (including £100 from Maureen Cookson), second prize a £65 Theofano Annie Sloan paint workshop, third prize a £50 Cosgroves voucher, fourth a Whalley Warm and Dry £50 voucher and another £200-worth of vouchers to be won on the day. Tickets can be bought for £1 at the Summer Fair.
Sue Jeffries, who runs gardening courses and workshops at Whalley Old Grammar School Community Centre, will run a Plant Stall and offer free advice on Growing-Your-Own and showing children and adults how to sow seeds.
