CARING Karen Walker was the toast of her colleagues when she found herself in the running for a North West Care Award.

Nine colleagues from the Manor House Nursing Home at Chatburn went with her to the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool for the champagne reception, three-course gourmet dinner and black tie ceremony where awards were presented by TV celebrities Julie Hesmondhalgh and David Neilson (aka Roy and Hayley Cropper from Coronation Street).

Karen, who is training manager at the Manor House, had been entered for the award after she steered the home through three top awards.

Through Karen’s dedication and commitment the home qualified with the National Gold Standards Framework Award for End of Life Care as well as becoming the first business in the North West to get the Community Mark Award.

Karen also guided the Manor House to become the first ever home to receive the gold award in the Investors in People scheme for staff training and it has retained this standard in 2012.
