THE congregation of English Martyrs’ RC Church, Whalley, returned “home” on Saturday.

Services have been held in Whalley Parish Church since a huge renovation and rebuilding programme started at English Martyrs last autumn.

The first Mass in the now-refurbished church was celebrated on Saturday evening and it was packed for the Sunday morning Mass, at which young members of the congregation Daniel Bolton, Eleanor James and Elizabeth Golding were readers.

In the church’s newsletter, parish priest Fr Philip Price thanked Vicar of Whalley the Rev. Gill Dyer, the churchwardens, the parochial church council and the Whalley Parish Church congregation “for their generosity and kindness in so many ways”.

He added: “We all know that it will take some months to settle down, but Holy Week and Easter are perhaps the best days of the year for making the renovated building our own.”
