Art students at St Mary’s College, Blackburn, chose the Platform Gallery in Clitheroe to showcase their finest work.

The college’s annual Art and Design Show, known as the “Artist Collective”, features the work of students in all four art-based A Level subjects – Graphic Design, Fine Art, Photography and Textiles.

This year it chose the Platform Gallery – situated in Clitheroe’s former railway station – to host the show to give the students a taste of staging an exhibition in an actual gallery, with all the considerations that this entails. It also gave the exhibition a much wider audience than simply staging it at the college.

It opened with a Strawberries and Pimms preview evening and ran for four days at the gallery earlier this month. The showcase included diverse and exciting work including a patchwork handmade coat, oil painted portraits, exciting and original graphic design work and photographs of the Ribble Valley and beyond.

Andrea Westall, Head of Art at the college, said: “We are particularly proud of our student’s achievements this year as many are going on to study their subject at prestigious universities and courses, We can’t wait to see what they will produce in the future.”
